CradleDuende Up and Running!
Cradle Duende Bio:
Cradled Duende share Ashkenazic melodies from the Eastern European klezmer tradition. A joining of several cultures, they incorporate klezmer clarinet with rhythms of flamenco, reggae, and West African bata drumming. Lyrics are sung in Hebrew and Spanish over cajon and the didgeridoo. There is said to be no single cradle of civilization, but several independent communities in existence at the same time. The Spanish word 'Duende' refers to a heightened state of emotion, expression and authenticity.
The musicians combine their different gypsy heritage, and push past the boundaries of set musical styles. They promote cultural sustainability through bicycle performances and exist to encourage others through music.
More About Cradled Duende:
Morgan Nilsen, clarinet
Eastman School of Music graduate Morgan Nilsen earned a Bachelors of Music in clarinet performance and the diploma in ethnomusicology. There she focused on the klezmer genre and the musical traditions of Balinese Gamelan. Nilsen studied under the direction of the New York Metropolitan Opera Orchestra's former principal clarinetist Jon Manasse, as well as taking several lessons with internationally acclaimed klezmer clarinetist David Krakauer.
After serving as music director of a touring klezmer band for 1 1/2 years, Nilsen now resides in San Francisco sharing Classical, Balinese, Arab, Bulgarian, and Klezmer songs with others.
Now hailing from San Francisco, California, Justin Ancheta's ’eclectic style of reggae flavored indie-rock, funk and jazz has created a buzz throughout Northern California. With a sound that appeals to fans of all ages, he has opened for the Wailer's, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Charles Neville, and Ricky Skaggs, to just name some.
Justin Ancheta’s style combines such diverse influences as Thom York from Radiohead, Michael Franti and Spearhead, and Nick Drake. Ancheta's music is not afraid to stretch a toe, and even a thigh, over the boundaries. The songs are down-to-earth and moving: the type of songs you catch yourself singing long after the concert is over.

As bassist of note in too many bands to count, Aaron has been navigating the lower frequencies of music for over 15 years. Initially inspired by the subtle basslines of early postpunk, electro and goth, the later explored the eclectic terrains of reggae, ska, funk, free jazz, early Americana and ambient music. Early on as a self-taught musician, Aaron developed a style of solo bass composition relying on classical fingerpicking techniques, which has come to fruition through the use of his modified Mexican acoustic bass guitar, the guitarron. Aaron's guitarron is a six-string fretless bass, featuring a lengthened fingerboard, which allows him to play melodically with an extended range. He can be heard playing a variety of music in NYC, from the old-time and Eastern European sounds of the Strung Out String Band, to the bluegrass stylings of the Dawn Breakers, to the lo-fi bilingual acoustic indie music of Solo Dos En Tijuana.
Sean Tergis; Dumbek
Sean Tergis grew up surrounded by the rich world music community of Northern California, and fell in love with Middle Eastern hand percussion at a young age. Studying with Tobias Roberson, Faisal Zedan, and Mark Bell, he learned to incorporate technique, soul, and creativity into Middle Eastern rhythm styles. Sean spent 2006 in Istanbul studying and performing Turkish music. Since his return to San Francisco, he has been studying and playing Balkan music with Rumen Shopov. Influenced by all of these styles, and bringing his own unique sensitivity into the mix, he performs regularly with MWE, Dan Cantrell, Orkestra Sali and he sits in with Qadim, Stellamara and Fishtank Ensemble.
